The aim of this course is for students to develop their oral and written English in order to communicate and argue for their own interpretation of texts in light of various social and cultural contexts. Students will develop proficiency in critically reflecting on, analysing and interpreting texts. Students will develop the ability to define and demonstrate an understanding of central linguistic terms and methods of analysis. Moreover students will demonstrate knowledge of the development of British and American literature in relation to the history of ideas. Furthermore students will develop an understanding of the fundamental relation between language and social factors such as gender, ethnicity, age and socioeconomic status. Students will also write an academic final essay.
