Distance Library Services

Students and staff are able to request books, read e-books and access the library’s electronic resources from home or off campus. You can also book time with a librarian if you require help. If you live in Sweden, you can have items posted to you at your home address.

Borrowing rules

It is important that you read our borrowing rules, since borrowing from us automatically means that you agree to abide by them. You can find information on loan periods, late returns and more in our borrowing rules.

Library card

Students and staff can use their user account as a library card. You can reserve books and access e-books from home. You are also able to search for articles and journals within our databases.

Be aware that if you use a computer connected to another network, you may experience problems accessing our electronic resources due to your network provider blocking our IP number. Contact us if you need help with this: bibinfo@du.se.

If you are not a student or staff member, you can still request books from home using your library card number and pin code.

E-Books

The simplest way to find our e-books is to use our search box, Summon. Certain course literature is also available in e-book format.

Articles

You can find the full text of many articles via Summon.

If you cannot find the article you require and are a student at Dalarna University, you may request for a copy of the article to be sourced and sent to your home address within Sweden. The cost for this service is 40 crowns per article. If you wish to request an article not available in the library, you can use our article request form. You will receive an email when the article is posted which contains details on how to pay.

Subject guides

Our subject guides contains search tips and links to journals and databases within your subject area.

Book an appointment with a librarian

If you require help with for example searching for information or refereces, you are welcome to book an appointment with a librarian. You can meet us in Zoom.

Receive books at your home address

If you are a Dalarna University student or staff member living in Sweden but outside of Falun or Borlänge municipalities, you may request that books be sent to your home address.

To request that a book be sent to your home address, start by finding the book in Summon. Once you have found the book you want, click on "Place hold", log in, and then select "Hemleverans/Home delivery" as Pick up location.

As soon as the book is posted, it will appear in your My loans. You will not receive a message informing you that the book has been sent.

Please note that you are required to pay the cost of return postage. If you live in Dalarna, you can return books to your local library free of charge. Only once the book reaches the university library does it register as returned. It is therefore important that you allow sufficient time for the book to reach us.

Fines for late returns

If you have received a fine for overdue items, you can pay it using our bankgiro account 5050-2665. Provide the account number 31427, the object number 48200 and your name. You can read more about overdue items and fines in our borrowing rules.

Interlibrary loans

Interlibrary loans are books we don't have in our collections, but order from other libraries on your behalf. These books can only be picked up in the library. Sometimes it is easier to contact your nearest local library and ask them to do the interlibrary loan instead. Find more information on our Interlibrary Loan/Purchases webpage.

Talking books

Dalarna University students with reading difficulties are able to receive a login to access talking books, braille and e-texts in the web catalogue Legimus.

If you have the possibility to come to the library, you can book an appointment for creating a Legimus account. If you live further away, you can contact your local library in order to arrange an account.
