The overall goal is for students to acquire in-depth knowledge and skills in IT architecture that includes IT methods and solutions.
Knowledge and understanding
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- Explain basic structures and components regarding IT architecture, including methods and models.
- Describe IT architecture solutions and their applications.
Skills and abilities
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- Analyse different application problems, in which specific competence is required for the design and development of IT architecture.
- Apply modeling methods to describe IT architecture for different types of organisations.
- Develop IT architecture solutions based on established theories.
Evaluation ability and approach
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- Evaluate IT architecture methods and frameworks.
- Assess situations where a suitable IT architecture solution is applied with expected results.
- Assess the quality of modeling results for different application problems.
Course Content
The course covers IT architecture that manages information system flexibility, quality, changeability, scalability and sustainability. Subject areas such as Business Architecture, System Architecture, Data Modeling, Web Information Architecture, and Platform Architecture are also covered.
The course also highlights best-practice solutions in Information Technology Architecture that encourage the use of open technology standards and global technology compatibility.

Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
For a final grade of VG for the whole course, students must achieve VG in the written exam.
Prerequisites
- At least 60 credits in the main field of subject Information Systems, including the course Business- and Systems Development 7.5 credits and IT Project Management 7.5 credits
