Investigation in Social Work

Knowledge and understanding

After completing the course, the student shall be able to:

  • describe different methods of investigations and the investigation process involving adult persons in social work
  • describe and investigate the child´s social situation and special needs from a development theoretical perspective
  • demonstrate knowledge of different strategies to conduct conversations and communication with adults, children and families and exemplify communication aids.

Skills and abilities

After completing the course, students shall be able to:

  • from a user perspective carry out various types of investigations in social work concerning children, families, persons with addiction or addiction problems, people with disabilities and with the need for special support and elderly with special needs
  • handle cases from application/notification to decisions and interventions
  • apply relevant laws and to be able to express in a simple, legal and concrete manner in writing.

Values and attitudes

After completing the course, the student shall be able to:

  • show insight into what different aspects of intersectionality such as gender, class, ethnicity and disability mean for assessment of interventions
  • show insights into people’s different needs, level of development in a life-course perspective
  • reflect on the importance of the interpersonal meeting and professional response for the investigation process.
