Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course the student should be able to:

  • Account for the major theoretical perspectives and core concepts of the field of International Relations
  • Account for the major international political events since the beginning of the 20th century
  • Account for and problematize international cooperation and conflict from the perspective of the concepts of structure and actor within the field of International Relations
  • Apply the major theoretical perspectives on international political events, historical as well as current

Course Content

The course is an introduction to the major theoretical perspectives and core concepts of the field of International Relations. An overview of the major political events since the beginning of the 20th century is made and explained on the basis of the different theoretical perspectives. The course also deals with the structure and actor problematique within the discipline of International Relations with an emphasis on cooperation and conflict.

Assessment

Written take-home examination, written and oral presentations and active participation of the student during seminars.

Lectures and mandatory seminars.
