European Conference in Falun: ACENDIO

This week, Dalarna University will welcome close to 100 international guests to its Campus Falun, all of whom will attend the ACENDIO (The Association for Common European Nursing Diagnoses, Interventions and Outcomes) Conference 2019.

Founded in 1995, Acendio is a European organsation that works to promote the professional language of nurses. It also serves as a Europe-wide network for nurses who are interested in the development of a common language to standardised language within the field of nursing.

This is the first time for the organisation to hold its conference in Sweden. When it is held, it attracts researchers, healthcare development representatives and clinical practitioners from a variety of nations. The majority of attendees come from Europe, but this year has guests from as far-flung countries as Brazil, Japan, USA and Nepal.

The conference will take up the issue of journals using standardised terms in healthcare. A standardisation of terms within healthcare and in the journal system makes the risk of misunderstanding less likely.

"The conference will begin on Thursday afternoon and will be held over the course of two days," explains Jan Florin, Docent of Nursing and Secretary in Acendio. "We have a packed programme, with three keynote speakers and some 40 research presentations, as well as 35 posters that will be on display."

For the first time at an Acendio conference, attendees will have the chance to use a conference app.

"It allows attendees to see who else is at the conference. They can use it to design their own programme of activities and even to communicate with other attendees. Those of behind the organisation of the conference can also provide information in an easy way related to changes to the conference," explains Jan Florin further.
