Environment and Climate

Dalarna University plays an important role in the work towards improving the environment and combating the effects of climate change. While we can contribute through our education, research and collaboration, we also need to reduce the environmental impact of our activities.

Environmental Management System

Working according to an environmental management system means working systematically with planning, measures and follow-up to reduce the negative environmental impact of the University. On this webpage, you can find the University’s environmental policy (miljöpolicy), environmental enquiry (miljöutredning), annual environmental reports (miljöledningsrapporter) and information about our recurring environmental audits (miljörevisioner).

Sustainable Development Goals

Dalarna University has adopted eight sustainable development goals. Three of them focus on the environmental impact of the University: Meetings and Travel; Buildings and Energy; and Circular Resource Flows. Read more about each of these below or read the sustainable development goals in full in the document titled Goals and Activities for Sustainable Development at Dalarna University 2021-2026 (pdf) on Goals for Sustainable Development.

Meetings and Travel

Dalarna University aims to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases from work trips by 6 percent each year. How this will be achieved depends largely on how we make use of our experiences from the pandemic, which resulted in more digital meetings and new work procedures.

Buildings and Energy

Our buildings affect the environment through their emission of greenhouse gases and use of natural resources. Dalarna University rents its premises from several property owners, and like us, they want to reduce the environmental impact of their buildings.
