The Employee Survey – Have a Say and Get Involved
By responding to the employee survey, you help the University to build a better and more rewarding work environment for everyone.
The survey looks at the current situation at the organisation to identify areas where efforts are needed to improve the work climate and the organisation as a whole. This method builds on the principle that increased participation creates better conditions for the successful implementation of changes.
When you get involved as an employee, you take responsibility for your work by creating meaning, influence, and accountability in your role.
The Survey Process
The University uses a Quicksearch tool for the survey. All employees are asked to complete the survey and receive a link to it in an email. Each link is unique to a department since results are presented at both a university-wide level and a departmental level.
The survey is anonymous and available in both Swedish and English, but the responses will be compiled and presented as a whole.
The survey includes questions in four areas:
- Work climate
- Leadership
- Organisation
- Vision and goals
Your Responses Are Anonymous
Anonymity is an important aspect for everyone involved in the survey – both those responding to the questions and those working with the administration of the survey. To ensure and guarantee anonymity, the third-party provider is responsible for the entire data collection process. Since the results are stored on the provider’s servers, nobody can see who has completed the survey or how any individual has responded.
Remember that all responses are anonymous, even if you receive a reminder. All communication in the survey system (DialogManager) is automated without any human involvement. Personal information (your email address) is decoded before any results are presented.
To ensure your anonymity, the information you provide about yourself and your background will only be used in the presentation of overall results. Your immediate supervisor will NOT be able to see, access, or analyse any information based on the background questions.
Survey Results
The results of the survey will be presented at both a university-wide and a departmental level. For results to be displayed at the departmental level, at least five people from the department must have completed the survey. For comments to be presented, at least eight people must have responded. Comments are always presented in full. The director of department/office (or equivalent) is the only person to receive the results for their department/office. These are then discussed and worked on together with employees.
The department head will present the results in conjunction with the APT departmental meeting. The results will be discussed, and priority measures will be developed in workshops. The department/office will then draw up an action plan, which will be worked on continuously over the coming years.
What does the University do to continue being an attractive and interesting workplace?
To ensure basic satisfaction, “hygiene factors”, as they are termed, need to be considered. This includes ensuring that salaries are paid on time, that the work environment is safe and pleasant, and that benefits are proportionate to employees’ efforts. Beyond this, there are other important factors, which are often called “motivators”. These include ensuring that the work itself is stimulating and that there are opportunities for personal development, a healthy academic culture, strong team cohesion, and a reliable brand.
The most important element, meanwhile, is effective leadership at all levels and a shared understanding of the purpose of the organisation.
