Feasibility study of the steam heat pump system for sustainable transition of industrial heating in Sweden: a case study in plastic extrusion process

The project aims to investigate the feasibility of using steam heat pump system to reduce the cost and CO2 emissions from process heating in specific industrial sectors in Sweden.

Description

This will be achieved by a techno-economic-environmental analysis for a novel system by combining three emerging heat technologies of: a) steam heat pump, b) solar thermal collectors for steam generation, and c) rock bed storage system. The resulting system has potential to achieve high renewable fraction for heating demand and reduce the cost and consumption of fuels used for heating in Swedish industries, such as electricity, biomass and fossil fuels. The proposed system will be relevant for industrial sectors such as paper & pulp, food & beverage, chemicals, plastic, and breweries which require steam below 200 oC for their production processes.
