Description
The operating room setting is described as one of the most complex settings in health care. Routine procedures in surgery involve a lot of critical steps, which may be potential opportunities for preventable hazards. A high level of patient safety is dependent on if the organization has a positive safety climate/culture. There is a lack of research on safety climate in Swedish OR settings. Therefore, an instrument that measures health care professionals’ attitudes regarding safety climate in the OR is needed to understand and identify areas that need improvement. This study will contribute to describe how the work system, contextual factors and the clinicians who work in these systems interact and influence patient safety, with the objective to increase patient safety and reduce the risk for potential hazards for patients who undergo surgical procedures.
