Description
The overall aim of the project is to evaluate healthcare professionals’ knowledge, attitudes and self-assessed abilities including affecting factors regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to validate reported data concerning in-hospital cardiac arrest to the Swedish Register of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and furthermore evaluate the level of training in CPR and its effects on compliance to treatment guidelines and survival in patients treated for IHCA. Data will be collected from a national quality registry, hospital administrative records and through a survey with questionnaires.
Healthcare professionals are expected to quickly and correctly help a person with a sudden cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest is uncommon but must be treated immediately and under pressure. Repeated training is necessary for retaining the knowledge needed to perform CPR and to be able to give the best possible care to in-hospitalised patients. Repeated CPR-training contributes to patients getting treatment according to guidelines, resulting in a better chance of survival with a good neurologic function. Survival with good neurologic function leads to a life similar to before the cardiac arrest with less suffering and less need for rehabilitation and help. The relevance of the project is high because of the evaluation of the CPR education given. The project will also evaluate the treatment given at resuscitation and if the level of training affects patient survival.
