Description
Obstetric violence is a term used to describe any physical, sexual, or psychological abuse that occurs during the birthing process. This can include things like verbal abuse, physical restraints, unnecessary medical interventions, and failure to obtain informed consent for procedures. Obstetric violence can have serious physical and emotional consequences for both the person giving birth and the newborn, and it is important that it is recognized and addressed. Women who are exposed for obstetric violence need seek help and support. This could include talking to a healthcare provider, reaching out to a support group or counselor, or contacting local authorities or organizations that can provide assistance.
