Apply for the Courses in Your Programme

You must apply for the courses in your programme from and including the second semester of your programme and every semester after that. You are able to apply for the courses as long as you still have study time remaining in your programme.

How do I apply for the courses in my programme?

You must apply for the courses in your programme from semester two and every semester after that until you have completed your programme.

You apply on universityadmissions.se ahead of the start of each semester. It is important that you log in using your student account (studentkonto) so that you can see the courses in your programme.

On the University Admissions website, you can see information about key dates and deadlines, including the final date for applications.

What courses do I need to apply for?

You can see which courses you need to apply for in the Learn room for your programme.

Optional Courses and Risk of Overlap

If you are taking a degree programme and plan to take optional courses as part of that programme, then it is important that you consider the risk of what is called "overlap". This is when a course has the same or similar content as another course.

A degree may not include courses that have the same or similar content. If you want to take a course from the same subject area as the courses you have taken or will take as part of your programme, then you need to check for this.

How do you know if the content of one course overlaps with another?

Look at the course syllabuses and compare content/purpose, learning outcomes and reading lists. If you see similarities, then there is a high probability that the courses overlap. No overlap is allowed, so not even a learning outcome, an explicit purpose or a course book can be the same. If they are, then you are advised not to take the course because they cannot be included in the same degree.

If you are still unsure after reviewing the syllabus of each course, send them both to support@du.se and request help with an overlap assessment. In the course syllabuses, highlight the similarities you see between them and areas where you are uncertain if there is an overlap. Alternatively, describe in a text what similarities you see and where you are uncertain.

Guaranteed Admission

If you are a student in a programme, then you are guaranteed admission to the courses in your programme. This guarantee applies on condition that you:

  • submitted your application by the deadline;
  • accepted your place in the course according to the instructions in your admission decision
  • meet the entry requirements for those courses you applied for by, at the latest, their respective start date.

Programme Study Time (Number of Semesters)

You can apply for your courses as long as you still have study time in your programme. (Study time means the planned time for programme completion.) For example, if you have started a three-year full-time programme, then you apply for your courses at the start of each of the six semesters that make up the programme.

If you have an approved leave from studies (studieuppehåll) you must contact us to have the time for your programme completion extended according to the length of your leave.

More information about this can be found on Approved Leave from Studies
