Multi-factor Authentication

When you log into your student account, you need to activate multi-factor authentication (also known as two-step verification or MFA).

Multi-factor authentication consists of a combination of:

  • your username
  • your password
  • a mobile device or phone.

Multi-factor authentication ensures that it is you who is logging in and that your account is protected even if someone should get hold of your password.

Register Your Mobile Device or Phone

For multi-factor authentication to work, you need to register your mobile device or phone. You do this using the Microsoft Authenticator app. Download it for free here:

You must complete the registration within 14 days of logging in for the first time with your student account. You will receive this message: "More information is required." Simply follow the on-screen instructions.

Once you have registered, you may still need to approve your login at a later date when you log in from a computer or mobile device that is not the University’s or if we suspect that your account information has been compromised.
