1. Objectives of the Educational Programme
1.1 Objectives, as Specified in the Higher Education Act (1992:1434), Chapter 1, 9 §:
Knowledge and understanding
To obtain a Master‘s Degree, the student shall:
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the breadth and diversity of the field of Audiovisual Studies, as well as a knowledge and understanding of the historical, cultural and social contexts in which sound and image interact
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the production of audiovisual representation and of the production process and design theory
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the specific nature of auditory and visual sensory experiences and means of expression.
• Demonstrate how the auditory and visual sensory experiences work together in audiovisual art forms and expressions.
Competence and skills
To obtain a Master‘s Degree, the student shall:
• Demonstrate the ability to consider both the audio (sound design, other recorded sound and/or music) and the image (still as well as motion pictures) in audiovisual productions, which can be evaluated based on artistic and practical criteria
• Demonstrate familiarity with professional methods for audiovisual productions, as well as appropriate audio and imagery technology
• Be able to implement cultural, linguistic and technological tools in a flexible manner so as to integrate different forms of knowledge (such as multimodal, visual literacy)
• Demonstrate the ability to complete a research project independently that is at the level of a Master’s research project in terms of both text and form.
Judgement and approach
To obtain a Master‘s Degree, the student shall:
• Demonstrate an awareness of the complexities of concepts such as entertainment, commercialism and art, while also demonstrating an ability to discuss various types of audiovisual production in relation to these concepts
• Demonstrate an understanding of the significance of audiovisual design in the creation of identity at both the individual and group levels, with particular attention to relationships of power in local, national and global contexts
• Demonstrate an understanding of the similarities and differences between scientific and artistic representations
• Demonstrate how the scientific and the artistic work together to contribute to the development of knowledge and skills
• Demonstrate an understanding of research and production ethics

- Bachelor‘s degree in music, sound and music production, composition, visual production, audiovisual production, graphic design, or teaching degree with a focus on media production, alternatively a bachelor‘s degree combined with documented knowledge and experience of production processes and current technology in the audio and/or visual field.
