African Studies: Urban Spaces and Urban Policies in Africa South of the Sahara

After completion of the course the student shall be able to:

  • independently and critically analyse the power, limitations and possibilities of economic factors in the shaping of urban spaces in Africa south of the Sahara
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge of, and the ability to independently and critically interpret and analyse, the dynamics of African societies
  • independently compare and evaluate, with a clear theoretical connection, different policies and strategies for urban development used by governments, city councils and civil society.
