German: Identity and Gender in Literature in German

The course aims for students to acquire substantially deeper insights into theories about gender and identity and how it is thematised in literature in German.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • contribute with problematising perspectives on gender in relation to, among other things, sexuality, ethnicity, diversity and (inter)cultural identity
  • apply gender theories to fictional texts
  • apply literary concepts and terms in a relevant way
  • provide constructive criticism on other students’ written work
  • orally and in writing, reflect on and critically evaluate scientific articles
  • express themselves orally and in writing with a great deal of linguistic certainty and with great linguistic variety.

The course consists of mandatory online seminars that take place in a virtual classroom at set times, as well as various assignments.
There are no physical gatherings.

Computer Skills:

Surf on the Internet, read and send emails, use a word-processing programme (e.g. Word). Connect a camera and headphones to the computer and install a programme using instructions.

Computer Capacity:

Access to a computer (Not a mini pc, tablet or similar) that is not older than three years (or equivalent) and broadband connection, at least 1 Mbit/s (not mobile broadband, because mobile broadband can vary considerably in speed).

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course. Web-based meetings with sound and image where simple presentations can be held. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online.
