Japanese: Bachelor‘s Degree Thesis

Starts week 4, 2025

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • explain and discuss detailed and up-to-date knowledge within academic fields related to Japanese literature, linguistics, cultural anthropology, or translation studies
  • formulate relevant questions and an independent plan for an academic study that can be completed within a set time
  • search for and evaluate the usefulness of material relevant for the study, and use it in an independent and creative way
  • take into account relevant issues of research ethics when carrying out the study
  • argue for the strengths and weaknesses of different theoretical perspectives and give reasons for their use in an academic study
  • present a completed scientific project in writing, in English or Japanese, using logically convincing language and detailed arguments
  • give due consideration to the structure of an academic paper, its references, footnotes and quotations
  • evaluate their own scientific process and apply the conclusions of this evaluation
  • give constructive criticism on the work of another student and deal with the criticism of others in an objective way.

Computer Skills:

Surf on the Internet, read and send emails, use a word-processing programme (e.g. Word). Plug in peripherals to your computer, install programmes and adapt installations for your computer.

Computer Capacity:

Access to a computer (Not a mini pc, tablet or similar) that is not older than three years (or equivalent) and broadband connection, at least 1 Mbit/s (not mobile broadband, because mobile broadband can vary considerably in speed).

Means of Education:

Higher rate of web-based communication where our learning platform (Learn/Canvas) is a natural element of the course. Web-based meetings with sound and image where simple presentations can be held. Lectures can be broadcast live or can alternatively be made available afterwards online.
