Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- based on previous research, formulate a relevant and clearly defined question in the field of history studies as well as questions relating to this
- identify, reflect on and prevent issues relating to research ethics in their study
- critically reflect on the possibilities and limitations of different source materials
- independently and critically systematise, problematise and reflect on previous research results based on both scientific theory perspectives and a history studies perspective
- analyse their selection of source material in an independent and systematic study while using relevant theory and method
- discuss their research results in relation to the results of previous research
- process and improve their text based on the criticism put forward by the peer reviewer and seminar leader
- contribute to the development of knowledge within a defined area of history studies
- critically review and present constructive criticism on the academic work of other students‘.
Course Content
In the course, the student carries out a qualified and independent
scientific investigation. This will develop the ability to contribute to
the development of knowledge in a defined area of historical science. Survey
Results are presented in stringent essay form. In addition, the review and valuation of own
and other scientific works, as well as the formulation, presentation and handling of
constructive criticism in connection with the work process and when venting one‘s own and others‘
Theses.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Master’s Degree Thesis in History - 15 Credits | U–VG
Prerequisites
- Degree of Bachelor 180 credits with 90 credits in the main field of study History as well as 15 credits in History at second cycle, including the course History - Theory and Method 7,5 hp
Other Information
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
