Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- write and pronounce the Arabic alphabet as well as understand how the diacritic marks (al-harakaat) affect the pronunciation of certain vowels and consonants
- use a basic vocabulary
- answer and ask simple questions
- communicate in Arabic about simple familiar subjects
- introduce themselves, their family and interests
- use greetings
- read short texts and write simple texts about familiar topics
- use simple grammatical constructions
Course Content
The course is divided into two parts, language proficiency 1 and 2. Language proficiency elements such as grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking are integrated into both parts.
In language proficiency 1 the students are introduced to the Arabic alphabet and writing system. The students then practice how to combine letters correctly as well as work with the sound system, including how the diacritic marks affect pronunciation.
Language proficiency 2 build on the skills developed in part 1. Students engage in structured and free writing practice as well as further training in pronunciation and listening comprehension.
Assessment
Grades are based on continual assessment of both oral and written performance. Part 1 of the course has a final written home exam and part 2 one written and one oral final exam.

For VG on the whole course VG on at least 10 cr are required.

Module 1: Language proficiency 1 - 5 cr
Module 2: Language proficiency 2 - 10 cr

- General entry requirements and English 6. No knowledge of Swedish is required
