Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • apply concepts and theories relating to sociology of religion in relation to children and young adults in closed religious communities
  • discuss the perception of children and young adults in closed religious communities at the micro, meso and macro level
  • critically reflect on and argue for the relevance of different sociology of religion perspectives in relation to children and young adults in closed religious communities
  • discuss and problematise the complexity when it comes to various actors in the current debate on the opportunities and limits of children and young adults.

Course Content

The course deals with sociology of religion perspectives in terms of the conditions in which children and young adults grow up in closed religious communities. The course places particular emphasis on discussions about the differences between various analytical levels, such as micro-, meso- and macro, as well as between different actors who appear in current debates on the subject.

Prerequisites

  • 90 credits in Humanities and/or Social Sciences

Other Information

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
