Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- apply theoretical concepts to explain the marketing of places as tourist destinations
- account for the possible roles that different stakeholders have in destination marketing
- analyse various destination marketing strategies
- critically review scholarly articles in the field of destination marketing research
- develop research questions that are applicable to the field of destination marketing research.
Course Content
The course is composed of two modules. The first module is concerned with destination marketing context and strategies. It deals with the unique characteristics of tourist destinations and the marketing implications of these. As well, case studies, theories and strategies for destination marketing are introduced, and the possible roles of various stakeholders in destination marketing are discussed. The second module deals with destination marketing research. It focuses on critically reviewing scholarly articles about destination marketing and developing students’ ability to identify and formulate research questions that are relevant to understanding the marketing of places as tourist destinations.

The grading scale used for the final course grade is A–F.
Grades are reported as follows:

- Destination marketing: research - 4.5 Credits | A–F

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
