Other Information

The course is given as part of a program and is not searchable as an independent course. The theoretical part of the course is entirely distance learning and is conducted via a learning platform. This means that there are no physical meetings on campus. The course‘s business-based training takes place at an internship with physical presence.
The course is part of the Specialist Nursing program in Care of the Elderly, 60 credits. Governing documents at the VFU site as well as the Working Hours Act must be followed by the student. If a student does not achieve the goals for the course part of the activity-based education (VFU), during the regular period, the examiner can decide on an extension of the VFU period by one week for each part. This can be done on the condition that the examiner assesses that the student has the opportunity to achieve the goals through the extension and provided that the extension is practically possible to implement. At the end of the extension, a new assessment of the student‘s performance is made. If the student has still not achieved the goals, the grade of Fail must be set, which means that VFU can only be re-examined by redoing the current section. The student has the right to complete a total of three VFU periods. The possibility of extension only applies to the regular VFU period. Ordinary time is counted as one (1) period, even if an extension of two weeks has taken place. A student may be failed prematurely during the VFU in progress, if the student exhibits such deficiencies in knowledge, skills and/or attitude that there is a tangible risk of another person being physically or psychologically harmed. The student must then cancel his VFU and receives a grade of Fail for the course component. Decisions on premature failure are made by the examiner in consultation with the relevant supervisor and clinical assistant professor or equivalent. In connection with the decision, an individual development plan for the student must be drawn up by the examiner after consultation with the student, program and course manager. The development plan must indicate which knowledge, skills and attitudes the student needs to acquire in order to be eligible to resume their work-based studies. The development plan must also contain information about the time for checking the relevant authorization. If the student is not deemed to have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes at the time of inspection, the time for a new inspection must be announced. A total of two checks of eligibility to resume VFU based on individual development plan after early failure can be granted.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
