Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- practice an extended understanding for filmic figuration
- exemplify a detailed knowledge in dramaturgy and the components of film
- reflect upon filmic means of expression such as sound, mise-en-scène, editing and cinematography
- analyse scriptwriting and discuss aesthetical choices in filmic storytelling.
Upon completion of the course, the student will have developed personal and professional skills:
- concerning reflecting and commenting on his/her own work and the work of others
- demonstrate an ability to work with fellow students on various assignments.
Course Content
The course aims to extend understanding of filmic storytelling and to develop personal aesthetic competence. The course analyses picture storytelling with respect to scriptwriting, dramaturgy and filmic means of expression such as mise-en-scène, cinematography, editing and sound. The course deals with the effects of different techniques and story telling tricks in relation to moving images. The student develops an extended knowledge of the aesthetics and composition of moving images.
Assessment
Examination is in the form of written examinations and mandatory seminars.
Forms of Study
The course comprises of lectures and active participation in practical exercises and seminars. Group work and individual tasks are also included.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
Prerequisites
- 75 cr in Moving image production including Scriptwriting for TV and film 4, TV series and storytelling, 15 cr undergraduate level 1, or equivalent knowledge.
