Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will, in Arabic, be able to:

  • describe the best-known authors of Arabic young adult fiction
  • identify specific features of Arabic young adult fiction
  • describe the relation between a number of Arabic young adult fictional works and the reality they describe
  • analyse a number of Arabic young adult fictional works using relevant theoretical references
  • independently choose a theme htat is relevant to young adult literature and discuss it in relation to an Arabic young adult novel.

Course Content

The course introduces well-known contemporary  authors of young adult literature, and their works are discussed. The special features that distinguish Arabic young adult literature are analysed and put in relation to a selection of Arabic-speaking societies. Students choose a theme that is relevant to the subject and discuss this with reference to a book in Arabic for young adults.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

Grades are reported as follows:

Entry Requirements

  • Arabic II, 15 credits

Other Information

The language of instruction is Arabic.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
