Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will, in Arabic, be able to:

  • explain different aspects and currents within the field of eco-criticism
  • discuss the function of descriptions of nature and the environment in Arabic literature and poetry
  • analyse a selection of texts from an eco-critical perspective
  • independently choose and explore an aspect of eco-criticism in relation to Arabic literature and present their results
  • demonstrate the ability to make connections between the theoretical aspects of the course and contemporary events with a focus on the environment.

Course Content

The course introduces the eco-critical field of literary studies and connects these theoretical texts with Arabic literature from different eras. Different analytical models are introduced and used to discuss and critically evaluate texts and their descriptions of nature and environment. During the course, students independently choose an aspect within the field that they want to explore and they then present their results. Parts of the course’s theoretical material and literary descriptions are discussed in relation to real events.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

Grades are reported as follows:

Entry Requirements

  • Arabic V, 15 credits

Other Information

The language of instruction is Arabic.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
