Learning Outcomes
- interact orbally and in writing in both prepared and spontaneous situations in French
- apply basic skills in French grammar in grammatical analyses and in this way demonstrate proficiency in the structure of French
- read longer texts in French, both authentic and doctored, and with the help of dictionaries analyze and translate them
- write their own short texts in French
- show some basic knowledge of French society as well as of the French-speaking world
- identify systematic similarities and differences between Swedish and French with regards to pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary.
Course Content
The course is designed to develop the students‘ basic knowledge of French and thereby prepare the student for further higher education in French. The course includes reading texts, work on pronunciation and vocabulary, listening comprehension, and varied oral and written exercises. Basic skills in French grammar are applied in grammatical analyses and contrastive exercises. This course introduces students to the culture and society of various Francophone countries. Students finish the course with a self-assessment of their language learning.
Assessment
The course is assessed continuously through oral performance in seminars, written assignments and recording assignments, as well as through a final exam.
Forms of Study
The course is taught through seminars that are central to the course and where students are expected to participate actively. Instruction is in French.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, VG is required for modules 1 and 2.
Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Oral examination - 3.5 cr
Module 2: Written examination - 4 cr
Prerequisites
- French: Basic Course III, 7.5 credits at First cycle
Other Information
A passing grade in this course qualifies the student for further studies with French as the main field of study at Dalarna University.
