Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- explain basic features of Africa‘s 19th and 20th century history
- explain basic features of religious traditions in Africa
- explain basic features of contemporary political processes in Africa
- interpret, analyse, and discuss the dynamics and modern history of different African societies, and in their analysis integrate various explanatory factors
- discuss the significance of Africa in contemporary global developments.
Course Content
The course covers studies of Africa‘s modern history, religion and current political events, and includes reading and discussion of introductory works that present different perspectives on socio-economic, political, religious, cultural and gender-related matters.
Assessment
The course is examined continuously through the assessment of students‘ prepared and active participation in seminars as well as of oral and written presentations of assignments.

Lectures and obligatory seminars.

The Swedish grades U–VG.
