Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- explain basic features of 19th and 20th century African history
- explain continuity and change in 19th and 20th century African history
- discuss and analyse problems in the study of the modern and contemporary history of Africa
- discuss the significance of Africa in contemporary global developments.
Course Content
With an emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa, the course comprises studies of Africa‘s modern history and current political events, which includes the reading and discussion of introductory works that present different perspectives on socio-economic, political, religious, cultural and gender-related matters.
Assessment
Prepared and active participation in seminars, and oral and written presentations of associated assignments constitute a continuous form of examination.
