Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- explain central linguistic theories and methods
- discuss the structure of modern Italian, in particular its morphology and syntax, and from a contrastive perspective for the Romance languages
- explain and apply basic concepts in the following linguistic areas: semantics, pragmatics, text linguistics and sociolinguistics
- reflect on fundamental issues that drive modern linguistic research
- independently carry out a small-scale linguistic analysis project in Italian linguistics, and present this orally and in writing.
Course Content
The course offers an overview of Italian linguistics, together with theory and method in the general linguistic field.
The course deals with how Italian is structured and how it is used in society from an analytical point of view. In the course, students complete a small project on linguistic analysis.
Assessment
Written assignments and oral presentations, an independent linguistic project, and active participation in discussions.
Forms of Study
Seminars and forum discussions. The language of instruction is Italian.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, student must achieve VG in both modules.

Module 1: Discussions and Written Assignments - 3 cr
Module 2: Written Linguistic Analysis Project and Oral Presentation - 4.5 cr

- Italian B: Grammar and Written Production, 7.5 credits, Italian B: Oral Proficiency and Cultural Knowledge, 7.5 credits, Italian B: History of Literature with Text Analysis, 7.5 credits and Italian B: The Italian Language - Past and Present, 7.5 credits
