Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- read and discuss literary texts in Japanese
- write simple analyses of literary texts
- employ certain basic methods used in literary studies
- give an account of a few important Japanese authors.
Course Content
In this course, students read and discuss a number of short stories sritten in contemporary Japanese. Simple analytical exercises provide an introduction to and practice in certain literary methods. By reading and reflecting on a number of academic articles about the authors who are covered in the course, students broaden their knowledge of the authors‘ lives and works.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Japanese III: The Modern Short Story - 7.5 Credits | U–VG
Prerequisites
- Japanese II: Language Proficiency 2, 15 credits

The language of instruction is Japanese, with English used when required.
This course overlaps previous course code GJP23R.
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement.
