Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- discuss emerging trends in modern Chinese society (from 1912 to the present)
- discuss a selection of given themes from different perspectives
- reflect on and argue for their own interpretations of emerging trends in modern Chinese society
- collect, compile and analyse information in relation to a theme that is relevant to the course.
Course Content
The course provides a broad overview of China‘s changing society from different perspectives and introduces themes that highlight developments in Chinese society from 1912 until today. Focus is on the changing social climate. A selection of representative academic texts in both English and Chinese will be discussed, and the content is put in relation to important socio-cultural phenomena such as gender, communication, education and language.
Assessment
Continuous assessment of oral presentations and written assignments.
Forms of Study
Obligatory seminars. The languages of instruction are Chinese and English.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.

- 90 credits in Chinese at First cycle
