Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • use Chinese proficiently in basic business activities.
  • use appropriate expressions in formal situations
  • use appropriate expressions that relate to office routines
  • describe in general terms the main features of China’s business culture and business life, including business etiquette, business relations, and office routines.

Course Content

The focus of the course is on basic communication skills in business contexts. The course provides opportunities for students to  practise basic expressions and vocabulary used in business situations. The course also includes discussion about traditions and routines in Chinese business life.

  • Active participation in seminars
  • Written assignments
  • Supervised written online examination

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.

For a final course grade of VG (Pass with Credit), students must achieve VG for at least 5.5 credits, including the module Written examination.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Chinese language proficiency for business 1 - 2 Credits | U–VG
  • Chinese language proficiency for business 2 - 2 Credits | U–VG
  • Chinese language proficiency for business 3 - 2 Credits | U–VG
  • Written examination - 1.5 Credits | U–VG

Entry Requirements

  • 30 credits in the main field of study Chinese

Other Information

The language of instruction is Chinese, and Swedish or English is used when necessary.

This course overlaps the course Chinese for Business: Daily Communication, 15 credits.

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
