Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- communicate unhindered in Chinese on a variety of topics
- read and and understand short authentic Chinese texts
- compose short essays in Chinese on different topics and provide arguments in support of their opinions
- use a more advanced vocabulary including some of the most common idiomatic expressions
- use relatively complicated sentence structures.
Course Content
The course comprises six parts that build on each other. The four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing are greatly integrated with each other. During the course, students practise various language styles across different genres as well as debate on and present well-known topics in Chinese. Students also analyse selected authentic Chinese texts and complete writing assignments that require them to apply their knowledge of Chinese grammar, language structure, and idiomatic expressions.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
For a final course grade of VG (Pass with Credit), students must achieve VG for at least 9 credits, including the modules Written examination and Oral examination.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Oral and written proficiency, part 1 - 3 Credits | U–VG
- Oral and written proficiency, part 2 - 3 Credits | U–VG
- Oral and written proficiency, part 3 - 3 Credits | U–VG
- Oral and written proficiency, part 4 - 3 Credits | U–VG
- Written examination - 1.5 Credits | U–VG
- Oral examination - 1.5 Credits | U–VG
Entry Requirements
- 90 credits in the main field of study Chinese, including the course Chinese in Speech and Writing III, 15 credits
Other Information
The language of instruction is Chinese, and Swedish or English is used when necessary.
This course overlaps the previous course code KI1030.
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
