Course Content

Within the course, students write a scientific study, in Portuguese, English or Swedish, of about 6000 to 10 000 words, that is based on a well-defined literary or linguistic problem directly related to literature written in Portuguese or the Portuguese language. The major part of the course consists of independent research. The course begins with a number of introductory seminars where the choice of topic, research question, theoretical approach, literature search, and outline of the thesis is discussed in the group. The topic of the thesis is chosen in consultation with the supervisor. Only areas where guidance can be given by an advisor with research expertise may be considered. A first version of the thesis is discussed in a seminar with other students midway through the course. At the end of the course a final version of the thesis is discussed in a defence seminar where the students discuss each other‘s theses.

Assessment

Assessment is based on the development of a scientific thesis, the oral defence of the thesis and the discussion of a fellow student‘s thesis.
