Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • use basic phonetic terminology to both orally describe the Portuguese sound system and explain the differences between and similarities with other languages as well as varieties of Portuguese
  • demonstrate an understanding of different aspects of the Portuguese sound system, such as stress and intonation patterns, and pronounce words and sentences in Portuguese in a way that promotes understanding in the target language
  • conduct short oral presentations in Portuguese.

Course Content

The course includes the study of general and Portuguese phonetics and pronunciation. Differences between various language varieties are discussed through, for example, the watching of films in Portuguese from different continents. Oral proficiency and listening comprehension are practised in conversational exercises, oral presentations and film viewings. The language of instruction is Portuguese, and Swedish and/or English are used as support languages.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, students must achieve a VG in both modules.

Reporting of grades:
  • Pronunciation Test - 2 cr
  • Oral Presentations - 3 cr

Prerequisites

  • Portuguese: Basic Course II 15 credits

This course replaces PR1022.
This course cannot be part of a degree together with the course Portuguese: Phonetics and Oral Proficiency I, 7.5 cr.
