Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- analyse and critically discuss in a nuanced way knowledge about the rights of children, migrants and minorities
- identify problems relating to the implementation of the rights of children, migrants and minorities
- systematically explain, discuss and critically evaluate different theoretical perspectives on a defined area in the field of human rights.
Course Content
The course deals with the problems that arise when human rights are applied in the case of less empowered groups. The primary focus is on children, migrants and minorities, as well as aspects such as gender and citizenship. The course discusses and problematises how human rights have become a dominant framework for the way in which states and citizens/individuals should act in relation to each other.
Assessment
Prepared and active participation in seminars, oral presentations and written assignments.
Forms of Study
The forms of study are lectures and obligatory seminars. The language of instruction is English.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
Prerequisites
- 60 credits within history, religious studies, sociology, political science or international relations, and English 6. No knowledge of Swedish is required

Web-based courses require that students are able to
communicate in sound and video using a computer or equivalent equipment.
