Learning Outcomes
During the course, the student must develop basic knowledge and skills to be able to handle legal issues that are brought up to date in connection with the development and use of modern information technology (IT), the digitization of society and digital environments.
On completion of the course, students will be able to: give an account of the Swedish and European legal system, the doctrine of legal sources and legal method, describe relevant legal rules in the field of IT law, identify questions of a legal nature that arise in connection with IT, apply relevant sources of law to solve problems of a legal nature in connection with IT, be able to critically and from different perspectives take a position on the values that underlie the field of IT law.
Course Content
The course deals with Swedish and European IT law and legal issues that are of importance in connection with the development and use of modern information technology (IT), the digitization of society and digital environments. The course consists of different thematic parts that are structured based on laws and regulations that concern processing of personal data, information society services, data and artificial intelligence, freedom of speech, copyright and e-commerce. The course also provides a general introduction to law and the Swedish and European legal systems. The focus of the course is on commercial IT law, which is studied from a practical perspective, i.e. with regard to real phenomena.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
U-VG is used as the grading scale. Regarding ”assignments”, the grading scale U-G is used. In order to get the grade VG, VG is required with regards to ”online exam”.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Online exam - 2.5 Credits | U–VG
- Assignments - 5 Credits | U–G

Other Information
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
