Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students shall be able to:
- describe the development of Russian literature from 1917 until 1991
- interpret and analyse literary works from this period, their historical significance, and their cultural influence
- discuss how social changes in the history of Russia are reflected in literary texts
- independently formulate a question on which to write a short scientific paper
- use theories and methods in a limited study that will be presented as a scientific paper
- critically review another scientific paper.
Course Content
The course provides an introduction to Russian literature from 1917 to 1991. During the course, students study important Russian literary texts, which are read in translation, in relation to central periods in the history of Russia. Selected works are discussed from a historical, ideological, and cultural perspective. Particular attention is paid to the writers‘ storytelling style and artistic approach. In the course, students improve their ability to critically read scientific texts, to understand the connection between society and literature, to write a short scientific paper, and to act as opponent.
Assessment
The course is examined continuously through assessement of active participation in seminars and through a short scientific paper.
Forms of Study
Obilgatory seminars and individual supervision. Swedish is the language of instruction.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, students must achieve VG in both modules.

Module 1: Seminars - 7 cr
Module 2: Short Scientific Paper - 3 cr

- 90 credits in Russian, including the course Russian III: Russian Literature from 1800 to 1917, 10 credits at First Cycle
