Learning Outcomes

The overall objective of the course is that course participants develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to prepare them to work professionally as mother-tongue teachers of Russian and to be involved in the development of the subject.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • explain language development theories from a historical, social and cultural perspective
  • describe and discuss key concepts in language development in a multilingual environment
  • discuss how basic language skills are developed
  • based on selected theories and previous research on language development, analyse and critically review teaching materials in Russian and develop their own teaching materials
  • explain specific features that characterise online language teaching
  • argue for didactic choices based on psycholinguistic aspects of language development.

Course Content

The course covers key language development theories that are highlighted and discussed from different perspectives during seminars. The course also provides good insight into the psycholinguistic aspects of the multilingual development of children and adults. The theoretical knowledge ties with practical exercises intended to provide knowledge on how students can make their own teaching materials that can be used in future teaching activities. During the course, the specific features regarding web-based language teaching with synchronous meetings are highlighted.

Assessment

Continuous examination through the assessment of active participation in seminars, oral presentations, written assignments and a final examining assignment.

Forms of Study

Teaching is conducted in lectures and obligatory seminars. The language of instruction is Russian, with some components taught in Swedish and English.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

To achieve the grade of VG in the whole course, students require VG in two modules, i.e. 10 credits.

Module 1: Seminars and Oral Presentation - 5 cr
Module 2: Written Analyses and Assignments - 5 cr
Module 3: Written Examining Work - 5 cr

  • General entry requirements and Mother Tongue Russian 2
