Learning Outcomes

The goal of the course is for the student to develop in-depth knowledge of theories and methods used in sociology. The goal is also to use these knowledge and skills and present them in a scientific sociological investigation and essay.


Modules

1.
Sociological Methods II, 7.5 Credits

After completing the module, the student must be able to:

    
  • give an account of a selection of scientific theoretical perspectives and concepts and reflect on how different scientific theoretical positions affect a scientific study
  • describe quantitative qualitative research approach, data collection and analysis methods
  • account for the strengths and weaknesses of quantitative and qualitative scientific methods
  • carry out quantitative and qualitative data collection and data analysis
  • account for and discuss social science research ethics

2.
Advanced Sociological Theory, 7.5 Credits

After completing the module, the student must be able to:
  • account for and discuss central theories within a current sociological field
  • discuss and reflect on power relations at individual, group and societal level
  • account for and discuss the mutual dependence of the individual and the social contexts on each other
  • identify and analyze social phenomena using sociological theories within a sociological field

3.
Thesis Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, 15 Credits

After completing the module, the student must be able to:
  • independently identify and formulate a sociologically relevant research question
  • independently choose and apply a research method adapted to a specific research question
  • independently apply principles for good scientific presentation in essay form
  • orally and individually defend your own essay with factual argumentation in dialogue with other students
