Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- understand and use basic Swedish vocabulary
- apply elementary knowledge of grammar in speech and writing
- apply the basic phonetic principles of Swedish in an acceptable way
- use elementary perceptive and productive skills in Swedish in simple, predictable situations
- reflect on their language learning.
Course Content
The course has a communicative and partly linguistic focus. It provides an overview of basic Swedish vocabulary, elementary morphology, and syntax. In addition, the characteristic features of Swedish prosody are discussed, and students practise their pronunciation during the course. Students are given opportunities to practise perceptual and productive skills by, for example, taking part in simple conversations and writing short texts. The course also includes orientation in Swedish culture, customs and traditions.

- Supervised written individual exam at a location or online
Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
To receive the grade VG (Pass with Credit) for the entire course, students must receive a VG on both
modules.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Pronunciation, prosody and oral presentation - 3.5 Credits | U–VG
- Grammar and written presentation - 4 Credits | U–VG
Entry Requirements
- General entry requirements. Exemption from Swedish can be given.
Other Information
This course overlaps the course Beginner Studies in Swedish for International Students I, 7.5 credits.
For the web-based course, students need to be able to communicate with sound and image using a computer or equivalent.
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
