Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, studenta will be able to:
- understand and use key Swedish vocabulary
- apply basic knowledge of grammar in speech and writing
- understand and assimilate texts on everyday themes
- apply basic phonetic principles in Swedish
- formulate thoughts and opinions in a communicative manner
- apply simple communication strategies to bridge communication difficulties that arise.
Course Content
The course deals with the basic structures of Swedish and has a communicative and certain linguistic focus. Texts that students read during the course illustrate grammatical patterns concerning morphology and syntax and contribute to a wider Swedish vocabulary. Throughout the course, students practise their grammar and communication skills in productive and perceptive assignments and in interactive classroom activities. Swedish traditions are highlighted, and students compare these with traditions from other cultures and describe them in simple Swedish.

Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
To receive the grade VG (Pass with Credit) for the entire course, students must receive a VG on both modules.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Pronunciation, prosody and oral presentation - 3.5 Credits | U–VG
- Grammar and writtten presentation - 4 Credits | U–VG
Entry Requirements
- Basic Swedish as a second language I (level CEFR A1-A2.1), 7.5 credits
Other Information
This course overlaps the course Beginner Studies in Swedish for International Students II, 7.5 credits.
For the web-based course, students need to be able to communicate with sound and image using a computer or equivalent.
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
