Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- apply specialised knowledge of Swedish grammar and vocabulary in both speech and writing
- understand and analyse different types of texts and audiovisual material
- express themselves in different communication situations and respond to other people’s arguments
- write different types of texts in Swedish and develop these after feedback
- demonstrate specialised knowledge of Swedish culture and society, and compare these with their own experiences from other societies and cultures.
Course Content
The course has a communicative and certain level of linguistic focus. During the course, students complete a piece of work with a focus on Swedish grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Students study and analyse various types of texts and audiovisual material. In oral exercises, students practise their argumentation and other forms of oral interaction. The course includes specialised work in individual oral presentations and the production of different types of texts. There is joint refelction on Swedish culture and society as well as on other cultures and societies that students are familiar with.

- Supervised written individual exam at a location or online
Grades
The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
To receive the grade VG (Pass with Credit) for the entire course, students must receive a VG on both modules.
Grades are reported as follows:
- Pronunciation, prosody and oral presentation - 3.5 Credits | U–VG
- Grammar and written presentation - 4 Credits | U–VG
Entry Requirements
- Basic Swedish as a second language III (level CEFR B1.1), 7.5 credits
Other Information
This course overlaps the course Beginner Studies in Swedish for International Students IV, 7.5 credits.
For the web-based course, students need to be able to communicate with sound and image using a computer or equivalent.
This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.
If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
