Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • With the support of the supervisor, apply the nursing process
  • Using life story as a basis for person-centred care
  • With the support of supervisors, apply evidence-based instruments to systematically assess the need for nursing care
  • Apply basic nursing with a person-centred approach
  • Treat and communicate with care recipients and their relatives with dignity and respect, as well as adequately and clearly
  • With the support of supervisors, communicate, document, report in a clear, correct and secure manner
  • With the support of supervisors, communicate, document, report in a clear, correct and secure manner to employees and other healthcare institutions
  • Apply basic hygiene routines in different healthcare settings
  • Identify and reflect on the role of the nurse as a supervisor in elderly care
  • Identify your own strengths, limitations and needs for continued learning

 

Course Content

The course is conducted as clinical training in elderly care. In the course, the nursing process as well as treatment and communication are applied as a basis for a person-centered approach.

Grades

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–G.

Grades are reported as follows:

  • Clinical placement - 7.5 Credits | U–G

Prerequisites

  • 6 credits from The Nursing Profession and the Professional Responsibility of Registered Nurses 10,5 credits and 3 credits from The Nursing Process and Clinical Skills 6 credits

Other Information

This course cannot be counted towards the same degree along with courses that have equivalent content.

If the student has received a decision/recommendation granting study support from Dalarna University because of a disability, then the examiner has the right to offer an alternative examination arrangement. The examiner takes into account the objectives in the course syllabus when deciding whether the examination can be adapted in accordance with the decision/recommendation.
