Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students shall, in Italian, be able to:
- illustrate and discuss, orally and in writing, the impact that historical, cultural and literary factors have had on literary texts
- explain words and expression from the texts that have been read
- make simple analyses of literary texts applying basic literary concepts
- contextualise content in the literary texts that have been read.
Course Content
The course comprises the study and literary analysis of selected literary works that depict life and social conditions in northern Italy. Students are introduced to basic literary concepts and taught how to apply them to texts. Based on the literary texts, the course also provides an orientation on author biographies and relevant historical, cultural and literary expressions.
Assessment
Continuous assessment of students’ active participation during seminars; oral presentations; and written assignments.
Forms of Study
Obligatory lectures and obligatory seminars in which students shall participate actively and interact with their fellow students. The language of instruction is Italian.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To achieve the grade of VG in the whole course, students must receive VG in both modules.
Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Active participation in seminars and oral presentations - 3 cr
Module 2: Written assignments - 4.5 cr
Prerequisites
- General entrance requirements and Italian B/Italian 3 at Swedish upper secondary school, or equivalent knowledge. No knowledge of Swedish and English is required.
Other Information
Teaching is web-based through the use of learning platforms and digital tools. Students require a computer with a sound card and internet connection, a headset with microphone and headphones, as well as a webcam.
