Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course students will be able to:
- apply a correct grammatical and language structure, as well as an adequate use of Portuguese words and expressions, in their own text in a number of genres
- demonstrate knowledge of the specific features that characterize different genres
- analyze and comment on their own texts those of fellow students and the way in which they relate to the norms of the various forms of Portuguese using adequate grammatical terminology
- search for and use relevant sources, and refer to them in a way that is correct considering the genre
- translate simple texts from and into Portuguese.
Course Content
This module builds on the course “Portuguese Grammar and Written Proficiency I” and consists of the study of Portuguese grammar and language structure. The course focuses on written text production, in various genres, through which the students gradually enhance their written proficiency. Furthermore, translation of simple texts from and into Portuguese is included. Differences and similarities between the different forms of Portuguese are discussed and problematized on the basis of concepts such as language views, norms, and linguistic variation.
Assessment
Grades are based on written tasks, opposition of a written text and a final written exam in translation.
Forms of Study
The forms of study are lectures, seminars and group work. Portuguese is used as the language of tuition, and English and/or Swedish are used as support languages.
