Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course the students shall have acquired basic knowledge about the institutions and policy areas of the European Union. Furthermore, the students shall know how the formal as well as the informal decision-making processes work. The students shall also have gained an insight into and an understanding of the limitations and possibilities of the EU.
Course Content
Basic survey of the:
- European integration process from 1952;
- main institutions of the EU;
- policy areas of the EU;
- legislative process;
- major theories explaining the integration process;
- debate on the democratic deficit;
- enlargement processes with a special focus on the Eastern enlargement.
Assessment
Written examination and active participation of the student during seminars.
