Summary in English

This course looks at multilingualism in society with a focus on language politics, language planning and language ideology. The student will develop both methodological and theoretical skills in order to critically analyze ideological and political problems related to language in a national and global perspective. Particular focus is given to post-structural theory involving power, language and identity. Examples from different geographical areas, social contexts and time periods are analyzed and compared. The linguistic landscape as a field of research will be introduced, and the student will conduct a field study using this theoretical and methodological framework. During the course, the student will focus on a limited theme that is relevant to the course.
