Proficiency Test - Italian

If you do not meet the official entry requirements (i.e., do not have grades from a Swedish upper-secondary school and/or are not a native speaker of Italian), you must take a language proficiency test. We do not accept certificates from Swedish study associations or private Italian schools.

Students who have studied for at least 13 years in Italy do not need to take the test but must instead contact Head of Subject Vera Nigrisoli Wärnhjelm (vnw@du.se).

Note the test is free of charge.

The test has two parts:

  • a written test that is conducted digitally (i.e., online)
  • a spoken text on Zoom

You can take the spoken test only if you pass the written test. For this reason, you will not receive a time for the spoken test until you hear that you have passed the written test.

Based on the tests, we can assess whether you can start beginner’s course I or II or A courses at the first-cycle level (undergraduate).

Proficiency Test

  • Tests are held once a month.
  • The written part of the test has a time limit of 2 hours. To take this test, you need access to a computer with Internet connection and a location where you will not be disturbed. You do not require headphones or a web camera.
  • You will receive detailed instructions about the test, including a link. It will be emailed to the email address you provided when you registered for the test.
  • After the written test, the teacher will contact you. If you pass the written test, then you will receive both a time for the spoken test and a link to Zoom where the spoken test will take place.

Register for the Test

  • You must register for the test by emailing Head of Subject Vera Nigrisoli Wärnhjelm: vnw@du.se.
  • Register no later than five weekdays before the scheduled test.
  • If for unforeseen circumstances you cannot take the test, you must notify the Head of Subject no later than one weekday before the test is set to take place. If you notify us any later than this, you will be unable to re-register for the test until the following semester.

Our proficiency test is for admission purposes to courses in Italian at Dalarna University only.
